Where We Are
The Skellig Coast is located on the Iveragh Peninsula, part of the world-famous Ring of Kerry in Ireland. Stretching from Kells to Castlecove, this coastline is a place of rare beauty — where rugged cliffs meet the wild Atlantic and ancient history lives alongside vibrant communities.
Our region encompasses eight distinctive villages and towns: Ballinskelligs, Caherdaniel, Cahersiveen, Dromid, Foilmore & Kells, Portmagee, Valentia Island, and Waterville. Each has its own character, yet all share a deep connection to the land, the sea, and a proud tradition of learning and hospitality.
A Place of Learning
The Skellig Coast has a long and proud history as a place of learning — from the early monks who sought solitude on Skellig Michael to the thousands of students who visit today to study English, pursue research, or attend festivals and summer schools.
Our learning hubs include the Amergin Poetry Festival, Asana School of English, Cill Rialiag, the Daniel O Connell Summer School at Derrynane, Éigse na Brídeoige, Kells Bay House & Gardens, SMARTlab, Tech Amergin, The Mitchell Scholarship, The O'Connell Centre, the Learning Landscapes Symposium, and Sea Synergy.
